Default G-TECH Performance Meter-How do they Work!?!

Sorry, if this has been brought up before, but i was looking at the g-tech performance meters, on ebay.

And wondered how do they measure 0-60, 1/4 etc..from your cigarette lighter???, and are there any recomendations on these?? how accurate are they really??
Cheers

It measures your acceleration using an accelerometer (sp?)

A bit of physics (F=ma) and bobs your antie.
