ECU Fault-code weirdness

ECU Fault-code wierdness
Car running like a bag of spanners off boost - classic signs of MAF failure so I've done the black-black connectors and sure enough get a fault 23 coming back. It doesn't stall when I disconnect the MAF and it idles fine except over the last couple of days I've been coming up to junctions/roundabouts when its cut out a couple of times.
Decided to do a green-green as well and did an ECU reset and set off for a couple of miles. After a couple of mins CEL flashes and is giving code 32 - Lambda sensor???
Back home - disconnect greens and do a read of the fault codes and its only giving 23 MAF again??
Now I know that the O2 sensor going can make it run like a dog but I don't understand why it isn't giving both faults for the black-black and then the greens as well??
Would it be running so bad when on closed loop off-boost if the Lamda was knackered as opposed to the MAF??
It goes like a train when on WOT - no hesitation at all and holds 1.15 BAR no problem. It does have an induction kit and Bailey VTA (which will be coming off - only had the car a mth).
I'm resigned to spending £270 on the MAF (MY97 STi 4) anyway
Any help greatefully received.
Thanks.
Neil

Hi Neil,
IIRC, a car with a faulty MAF can send the wrong signal to the ECU and fool it into thinking that the lambda is failing, when there is a good chance that its fine.
Wire up the new AFR and it'll tell you immediately if your lambda is gubbed.
Your symptoms sound like definite MAF failure so I'd get it swapped ASAP.
Hope you're enjoying ther gauges.
Cheers
