Default idle air contol solenoid(whats this)

hi guys on my 94wrx,cel light came on briefly,checked error codes it came up with 24=idle air control solenoid,can anyone teel me about this or advise somewhere in or near sheffield to have it sorted and how much? thanks for ure help

It's a small stepper motor that will bias the throttle valve when the engine coolant temperature is low to raise the idle speed until your engine is warm. Sits below the intercooler on your model I think.
If the light re-sets and you have no problems at idle then may have just been a sticky motor, if it flags up again or you get unusual idle then I'd suggest replcing the solenoid unit.

I had the same problem when my MAF sensor failed. Read the ECU codes and it also flagged up idle sensor problem. Apparently these sensors very rarely need replacing and the experts on here advised me to clean the idle sensor as they are expensive to replace. I cleaned mine with white spirit and it has been fine ever since. good luck
