Default type r problem

i need some advice on a problem with a type r!
car is at a well known tuner.its had a new maf fitted the mechanic has found its boosting to 1.4 bar which im told is too high.on further investigation he has located a non standrad chip.he intends to remove it and return the car to standard!as far as im aware the car is totally standard apart from this mod i havent paid the dealer for the car yet.i trust the dealer as he is well known to me and he has gone over and above the call of duty.my question is would this level of boost possibly caused any damage to the engine or would the sti be ok with this level of boost.car was imported late in 2003 bought and sold and bought back by the same dealer.just a bit worried as i know how costly detonation can be!!

Mine peaks at 1.5 and as long as I user some octane booster there's no sign of any det at all.

You need to determine if the AFRs are OK when running on boost to whatever the maximum you plan to run (1.4 bar) and that the engine is DET free on whatever fuel or fuel and octane booster you intend to run long term.
Removing any chip may not be necessary unless there are problems of some sort.
For best results I would run Optimax plus N.F.

agree with harvey.

the boost level alone isnt a problem as standard engines especially sti engines should be able to cope with that quite easily, so long as the chip compensates the map for the higher boost level.

check fuelling with an exhaust gas analyser or wideband lambda sensor, and make sure it is det free using det cans.

optimax plus nf of a wise move, but is expensive over time.

If you plan to mod in the future anyway, then you may be better off just ditching the chipped ecu and purchasing a power fc from pvalo or andy f. That way you will know it has been well mapped and will give you peace of mind on whatever fuel you choose.
