Default Tech Heads. Can you help?

I have a problem with my MYOO turbo/wrx. When accelerating the power pulses. When in first gear it pulses until it hits 3500 - 4000 rpm, after this the power is smooth. The pulsing continues to higher revs with each higher gear, i.e. when in third gear it pulses until it hits 4000 - 4500 rpm. CVC of Cardiff have had the car back and have said they can't find any problems. Can anyone offer any advice.

Thanks - Jay

A wild stab in the dark would be a faulty or failing MAF sensor. They sometimes won't generate a fault code on the monitor @ the dealer.
My MY99 did the opposite - would stutter/judder from about 3000 rpm upwards.....

It is difficult to say for sure, as there are quite a few varying symptoms for a failing MAF - along the lines of your description, car hunting for idle @ traffic lights and blistering performance to name but a few.......

The part is only £80 to fix, but can cause a heap of grief if left.

I second that. Had my Maf Changed when I owned a MY00 Turbo as it didn't feel right and in some cases noticed the rev counter flunctuate ever so slightly when standing at lights and junctions, this was after I was stupid enough to get an aftermarket air filter fitted. Cheaper than an engine rebuild, as that is the way it may go.

My old one use to do this but i never got to the bottom of it ?

I put quite a few mods on the car after including a Link Ecu but this by-passes the Maf so this could of been down to the Maf i guess.

Are you running a standard Air Filter ?

Try re-setting the ecu,see if any fault codes are logged. If after a re-set the idle speed is erratic, the MAF is most likely duff.

I had this on a 99MY, it was the boost solenoid choked up with oil due to the dealer overfilling it on a service. A rinse out with carb cleaner cured it.
