A - Retain it as a fully trimmed road car and just tweek the power up a bit and enjoy being 'nearly' as fast as the race prepared cars.

B - Strip it out to drop the weight down and turn the engine into something nasty in order to play against the race spec Evo's and Skylines on a more even playing field ?

Leave it in Spec A for SSO as the probablilty of you being in the top 3 is very high - then move to spec B for TOTB4 to give the race prepared entrants some competition

keep as a normal car you have got to admit the only car that beat you last year had to be trailored there and you drove yours there and it was only by beaten by 0.3 secs

lots of people can achieve good things from car which are rally/race prepared

is it really worth beating a few tenths by stripping your car out or is it better proving your car is the best road car in the country <cough>

If you are looking at this for a 'Business' reason to display your 'Wizzardy' (and why not?) then i think A is right.
Being the quickest Scooby fully trimmed and looking like a road car is the Right Message to the punter (IMHO).
Beating the Skyliners and such like is heroic and raises the reputation, but many i think see 'loosing' to a trailered, roached-out, one event Charlie Skyline as almost expected such is the ledgend of the Nissan.

One of the reasons I came to your door was you ran a road legal, trimmed Impreza and killed the rest.

For very different reasons i have nearly stripped the Sti for hill climbs, but i cant be doing with Trailers, especially racing in the so called Road going class.

If you are there for the FUN, then gut it totally to the very bone. You will save about 60Kg? Important, but just how important?

its worth bearing in mind andy can strip the interior retain two seats and drive the car there, then unbolt the remaining seat and kick ****..when he returns to scotland the interior can be refitted.. The interior in andys car has no influence on his mapping abilities or the turbos he suppies.

Traction does become a problem David and as Graham mentions, the interior is not actually that heavy. I was a bit disappointed to weigh the door cards, rear trims, roof lining, side trims and carpets at a total of only 13kg ! I've lost more in the toilet pre race

Still undecided though, the racer in me wants to strip it out, the wind-up merchant wants to leave it fully trimmed

Every time i go hill climbing, there is a roached-out car there, looking the business and delivering it too. Usually Audi quattro's.

I know someone who stripped and kept the door seals and one seat. He was sh@gged before he got to the startline driving there...

Where is the weight in the Impreza?
Probably in the whole door, crash bars etc etc.

The stripped (and re dressed) Quattro's use Kevlar doors/wings/roof (!) bonnet etc etc and a might roll cage!

I think i would drive quicker if I trailered mine there instead of needing to drive home in it.

Nobody yet has weighed an Impreza, and then stripped and caged it and weighed it again!

Why not go for carbon fibre doors, seats, bonnet, boot lid, spoiler, door cards and even doors!! weight will be reduced but still retaining full trim.

Why not just leave the doors off take bonnet off and bootlid. Should save some weight and will be lighter than CF.

Yea, the doors are very heavy. Compared to the RA the Type R has elec windows, thicker glass, central locking, elec mirrors, and a big thick side impact protection beam which is welded in at each end and well bonded to the door skin and looks like impossible to remove without destroying the door !
RA doors feel like a bit cardboard in comparison but then they do have 4 of them so I guess it roughly balances out !

I've never seen lightweight CF or FG doors for them anywhere ? I wonder if you need doors for an mot

imho all cars in totb and sso, should have there full interior, MOT, INSURANCE,TAX,AND ROAD LEGAL TYRES,and all cars should be driven to the event

Mine is not going to be ready for this years TOTB, but I am certainly banking on sticking the Spec-C in for next year..... primarily for the handling circuit if no-one has any objections.

Since the car is only going to be used as a fun/track tool i'm going to be stripping as much out of the interior as I can over the next few months, while I await my new suspension and suitable engine mods.

With a proper driver (ie not me ), I wouldnt mind a pop at the EVO on the handling circuit.
