Default Checking Shims??

This might sound like a stupid question but Im gona ask anyway, I am getting the cambelt changed in my version 2 sti this week and they are going to take a look at the shims/lifters for me also as there is a bit of a tapping. My question is do they have to drain the engine oil to do this?
Thanks.

To check the lifters they'll have to remove the cams!

So I take it this means changing the oil, does it. Is it a long job to do considering they will have the cambelt off anyway and half way there

about half a days work with all going smoothly. longer if shims have to be replaced/sourced. oil does not need to be drained.

Version 2 engines have hydraulic tappits not shims , unless you have RA heads fitted

You can check the Cam clearances without taking the cam belt off.
Just take the rocker/camshaft covers off and slip a feeler guage under each lobe.

Not quite that simple but that's all that's involved with shimmed followers

Of course if they need re shimming then it's belt off, cam out job
