Default Nitosport Defi-Link System

Just purchased an 02 STI with the above. There are 3 gauges - oil temp, oil pressure & boost with a control unit (showing rec/play, peak/reset, up, down and select switches). Has anyone else got this system and if so, would you mind explaining to me (in very simplistic terms!) how this all works pls? If you can help, I would be grateful if you would send me a contact number by PM and I will call you. Many thanks.

P.S. I have the operating manual but it doesn't provide an idiots guide to operation!

Press the "warn set" button to set when the red LED warning light and warning buzzer of each gauge should sound.
When you press this "warn set" button all gauges will flash their LED's but one of the gauges will be flashing faster.
This is the guage you adjust up or down using..... you guessed it, the up or down buttons.
Pressing "warn set" again will make the next guage in the chain flash and so on..
Leave it unatteneded for 5 seconds and the display returns to normal mode.

Pressing "peak" will give you the maximum reading that all the gauges have reached since you wired them in and went for your first drive.
While "peak" readings are being displayed, pressing "peak reset" will clear all gauges "Peak" memory.
Peak readings will be displayed until you press peak again, upon which it will return to normal mode.

When the car is being driven the "record" button can be pressed and it will record 60 seconds of all the gauges movements.
Pulling over and then pressing play will replay the gauges movements you just recorded. This memory will stay in the unit until you press record the next time, it will always save 60 secs of movement so if on your second recording session you only record 30 seconds it will then revert to the last 30 seconds you recorded before hand.

Peak = highest point needle gets to
Warn = User set level to tell you your engine is about to turn to chocolate.
Record = Make Movie of the gauges in action.
Play = Watch movie you made.
Reset = hmmm lets try that again..

My settings
Oil pressure, set low point.. 2.5 BAR
Oil Temp, set high point.. 120 Deg C
Boost... Seems to bleep anywhere below 1.8 BAR for me
Exhaust gas temp, set high.. 910 Deg C

And now to bed.... >>>>>>>>

With lights off - adjust with up down - automatically stores.

With lights on - adjust with up down - automatically stores.

This is assuming whoever wired it made the link to the car lights.

Also typical readings on my 02 STI: Oil normal 95 degrees hot 100, really hot () 110 , boost peak 1.4 1.1 held in 6th, pressure 6 bar when hot at around 2500+, idle 2 bar when hot.

Okay, this is all new to me so excuse my ignorance!

Coming onto the motorway tonight excellerating from 3rd to 4th etc, I noticed the red light was flashing on the boost gauge at around the 1.3/4 mark. The red warning light came on several times (hit that mark and no higher) whilst excellerating in higher gears - is this right at that level of boost? Just want to make sure all is okay with the engine as I didn't feel I was really going for it at the time.

P.S. I haven't touched the defi settings (set by previous owner) since collecting the car from the dealer last week.

Just turn the warn level set up a little more, sometimes in the cold weather you can generate a little more and maybe a little bit of boost spike too. wouldn't be unduly worried.
once you get to know how much boost it runs and in what weather, you can then tell when somethings going wrong.

Andy
Andy, does the warning setting actually control how much boost you can run to then i.e if I raise the warning level then will the boost go even higher before cut-off and if I lower the setting will it do the opposite?

I was led to believe by the dealer that the control unit would allow me to adjust the boost level - clearly not with this set-up. These gauges simply tell me what the engine is doing and I use the control unit to let me know when selected max levels are reached - yes? I guess if I set the boost level max level to say 1.5/6 and the red light flashes then I have a problem.

P.S. So when does the peak light flash?

Cheers mate. Do you know what the max boost should be for an 02 STI with PPP please? Sorry for the questions but can't find this info anywhere!

No idea I'm afraid I run a classic on an aftermarket ECU with somewhat elevated boost pressures;D

Andy, I take it the TSL back box replacing the PPP product hasn't upset the boost?

well if it wasn't doing it before and the day you left the dealer after having the TSL box fitted it was starting to overboost, then there is fair chance of the answer being YES.

Christ !

I never had it that low when I was on "well used" mobil1 (2.5Bar minimum)

I thought I was wearing mine out quick shoving 400 through standard internals...
Seems it has a fair way to drop then before it all turns to dairy milk.

she's just ticked off the 32,000 mile marker.

Trashman,

In addition to the flashing red light, is it possible to set these to beep?
Cheers.

Yep - beeps are standard and don't know a way to disable

Lighting - did you run a seperate wire to lighting or did you use the "bright switch" wiring to the clock?

Pressure - dunno whether the Classic idles higher - many threads say 2 BAR or thereabouts some up to 2.5 BAR when hot and idling. Anyways, I'm getting 6bar + above 2500 rpm which is far more important - and the only thing that has ever happened was pressure went up on last oil change (to Motul 15W50 from Shell ??W40) and I've done 15K+ - car now has 42K+ total and no nasty sounds.
