Question ECU Reset..............

Afternoon all

Last night my anti-hijack wouldnt disarm, so today I spoke to the guy who fitted it who advised me to remove the battery positive for 5 mins then touch it on a ground somwhere on the car.

I have done this and the anti hijack is now working ok............sweet!

Just one little question tho, would this have reset the ECU or could it lead to any problems cos the last time the ECU was reset by the dealer the bloody MAF sensor went!? Was just looking for a bit of advice really so I know what to keep my eyes open for, dont want a faulty MAF killing the car! Car is a 2001 Impreza P1 by the way!

Cheers guys!

Stu

Re-setting the ecu won't knack the maf sensor. An ECU reset will possibly show up a failed or failing maf.

Ah right, I see? It was just that on my way back from my last service the car was running like a bag of **** and the idle was all over the show. When I took it back they said that resetting the ECU can sometimes cause this to happen and the fault was the MAF. They changed the MAF, reset the ECU again and all was fine?

Checked the fault codes on the S.E.C.S monitor after Id put the battery back on and nothing showed up?

It should be ok then I guess!?

Cheers

Thumbs up

Sorry Brun, I understand what you mean now, the ECU will learn to overcome the effects of a failing MAF.............its only when the ECU is reset to standard settings that you see that the MAF is failing!

Thanks pal!!!!

MAF on the car has been there for about 2,000 miles/6 months so Im sure that will be ok then!!

Thanks again!
