Default Checking your oil on a MY03 STi

Can anyone give me a tip on how you check the oil.

Every time I pull the dip stick out I get different readings. I am checking it when the engine is cold in the morning.

Sometimes one side of the stick is showing on minimum, however at the same time the other side is showing oil right up past the twisty bits which is well above maximum?

Other times it seems to register okay, then registers low.

I do not know what reading to believe.

Does anyone have this problem, if so, how do you check your oil properly?

Yes, one side always seems to be covered in oil! It's the other side you believe. If you've got 4.5 ltrs in the sump it should be on the top notch.

Thanks matey.

One side seems to go fairly high up, however, it has a sort of dry line going down the middle of the oil level.

I drove to work this morning, arrived at 9am, just went out and checked the oil whilst it was still warm, not hot. It reads perfectly.

It seems when the oil is cold it is hard to read on these dip sticks.

The notchis the maximum for when the oil is hot and the drilled hole is for when the oil is cold.

Warm up the engine until it reaches working temp, turn it off and wait for at least 15-20 min then take your readings.
