Question Weird clutch problem.

I have a very strange clutch problem and I am wondering if any one has had something like it, The clutch works fine (it is has been changed recently Subaru specialist garage) , what I am getting is when braking hard from a high speed 60+mph the clutch pedel goes down further before actuating the clutch in otherwords I get half of the pedel travel as free play travel, normally theres only a small amount of travel/freeplay,
It only happens on hard braking and it happens Every time, it has never happened any other way, I can not think whats causing it I even thought the bulkhead might be flexing but I am sure thats not the cause? Help please

You are NOT alone!
Mine did that too.
Weird sensation if not a bit spooky

The clutch pedal is right on the trigger point of popping down to '1/2 way' and the forces on the pedal area when braking is enough to move the pedal.
1
Check to see if the pedal free play (clutch) is about 10mm. If not re set the adjuster under the dash board/pedal assy unit.

2
If that is not the cure then....
To cure it try this:

Disconnect the battery.
Remove the clutch pedal assy from under the dash by 3 bolts. 2 are holding the clutch master cylinder on in the engine bay, another is tucked right in the dash board, look hard and you will find it!
remove the pedal itself:

There is a BIG pair of springs, about as big as a valve spring on the assy, remove them both (they might be pre tensioned so beware!)

Put the whole lot back in.
Adjust the pedal free play to about 10mm via the adjust screw and lock nut.

The pedal will feel a little more weighty and less defined at the top but wont drop as it now does.

If that does not cure it then it is serious clutch bleeding time.

come back to me if you wish. I've been exactly where your are!

Have you spoken to the garage that did the work? Surely it must of come with some sort of guarantee?

At the least they should look at it for free?

Yes will be speaking to the garage, but I wanted to make sure this was not a quirk of the car first or something so simple that I could sort it out without any fuss,
