with full de-cat and tek 3 mine run 251 bhp at powerstation
bit low but PS rollers run low
now ive added headers,K+N 57i and tek 3 by bob rawle, havent got it on the rollers yet but i can certainly feel a difference.

but iirc a td04 is only worth going up to around 280 bhp
ive got a vf34 and 550cc injectors and hyperflow tmic on the way.
should be 310 ish with that lot on and another tweak by bob

Decat uppipe, decat downpipe, STi panel filter, ninja backbox & remap by Bob Rawle, 269bhp & 300lbs torque.

Just had fitted a VF34, STi intercooler & uprated fuel pump & it gets remapped next week by Bob so hopefully about 300bhp

I got 284bhp at PE (282 IIRC second time I went). Ported OEM headers, up-pipe, APS sports cat exhaust, samco intercooler hose at the time.

Have to admit to being very suspicious of Granby's torque - no offense, but I have never seen another TD04 above 275 without more mods than exhaust, filter and ECUTEK, more usually they seem to get around 260. I have known PE to ****-up with their calculation of gearing, leading to wrong torque figures.

Bugeye version of TD04 is good for 300 on a good day with right supporting mods on optimistic rollers. Best ever AFAIK is 312 at PE, he had GGR sports cat exhaust, up-pipe, APS TMIC, samco hoses, possibly ported headers. Two others I know of got ~299 at PE.

No offence taken as I'm not 100% convinced but there were 20 odd cars run on that day on PE's rollers and most were showing normal torque figures i.e around the bhp figure

I think the most you can get out of a TD04 is about 280bhp, some will be better and some worse.

bob does like torque though
so,having a higer torque figure than bhp is quite understandable if bobs had his mits on it ;-)
he's just done mine and im looking to get on some rollers soon to see the torque figures
were 234 iirc at powerstation,, bet its nearer 300 now , and thats on the td04
but have also added headers,up-pipe and induction kit

Ken,

Currently running MY01 WRX (Bugeye) at 368bhp with no problems with engine, gearbox or clutch. All OEM at present. Has covered 52k miles in total with the last 20k around the 350bhp mark.

Hope this helps

Martin

Rollers only actually measure bhp, they then calculate torque from gear ratios. The gear ratio calculation is different for each car - hence it's entirely possible to C*ck up the calculation for one car whilst all the others on the day are right. I know with mine on two separate occassions at PE, I got the same bhp to within 1 or 2, but the torque was 272 one time and 250 the next. Checked the curves etc, they'd used the wrong gearing - should have come out at 270 the second time.

Which of course, proves nothing whatsoever re: your car - if the 300 is genuine, good for you!

Back to original question, the most I'm aware of on a standard WRX bottom end was mid 380s (numerous mods, TD05 with Garrett wheel, etc). This was then tuned further - headers, another remap - probably taking it to ~ 400 and promptly blew a hole in no 4 piston. The gearbox had only lasted about a week at that power before 3rd gear gave up, although the owner did believe in "drive it like you stole it"!. For long term reliable use at higher power, Martin (Ninnybob) is the best I know of.

No he's not, he's running with standard engine & gearbox internals, which was the second question asked. No matter how much money youhave, I somehow doubt you'll ever see a 2 litre scoob at 368 with only one TD04 fitted

280 is about your lot on a td04 IMHO mapped safely

I know of a couple of cars that have been run to 400 on standard uk internals. My own must be around 380 standard insides, and no problems for the last 8000 miles. clutch obviously gave up, but no problems with the gearbox as yet (touch wood).

I'd say the same, about 280 max for a td04.

Can anyone tell me if there is a difference between a TD04 and a TD04L.

I am just about to fit one to my Forrester and get it remapped and just wanted to know if 280 is the max for this also.

Cheers

No idea was fitted on the car when I bought it. I must admit we were all surprised when we spotted what it was. mind the spool up was unbelievable. this is the big debate i am having with a few people now. I changed it for a vf22 and I also have a vf35 and was wondering if I am better leaving the vf22 or going for the vf 35 or doing an upgrade on the vf22. But thats for another thread.

That standard WRX engine held 382bhp, which was a more impressive figure stayed like that for a while until i decided to go a bit further It then blew!

Although i really don't want to ruin the thread by starting an argument (does anyone hear the zipping up of the flame suit ) I'd have to say anyone making 300bhp on a TD04 have probably been on some 'optomistic' rollers. At sensible boost levels 280 should be about the maximum. Personally I wouldn't go looking for more than 260 without changing the turbo (I know this is easily achievable).

Did you not find the TD04 had run out of boost by 5500rpm on the type R?
