Question warning light on dash

i have'nt been using my car much of recently but i had a warning light came that came on, on the dash it was only on faint and then went out. now the car took a bit to start and even made a poping(just once) sound from the exhaust when i tryed to start it. now when it did start it idled quite eratically upto about 2500rpm. now once the car warmed up it was fine and the car ran fine to. the light that came on was on the top row of the warning lights, first on the left hand side. is it transmition?? the car is an sti type r verion5 running a link ecu. its prob somthing or nothing but just want to put my mind at rest

cheers mike

Can you describe what the particular light looked like?

Could that be the cat overheat warning light? I had this coming on recently at about 4K revs after accelerating quite hard. Once it had come on, it would re-illuminate at the slightest throttle increase. Fitted a new EGT guage, to check whether it was a 'real' warning or a faulty sensor. Turned out to be the sensor, as a couple of people had suggested. I've since seen it on an almost cold exhaust.

It doesn't go through the Apexi Power FC, according to Andy F. I'm inclined to think it's an on/off sensor, like the oil pressure switch, that only brings up a dash light.

I don't smoke, but the car has ashtray and a cigarette lighter that's still connected

You don't need to have cats, if the sensor has been re-fitted, it don't know.

sounds like the egt light. Only reason it usually comes on is if an ignitor has blown allowing too much gas to go through the engine unburned making your EGTs too high.
I had my exhuast glowing red b4 I figured out the problem

No idea why it would come on when turning the car on though...

so it could be due the car poping when i started it up. prob more of a misfire with the car standing for a couple of days.

Mike - It couldn't be something as simple as damp could it? When you've got the car warmed and running ok give the distributor & leads a good coating of damp start or wd40.
