Ok, I've got myself an Afterburner decat down pipe for my 93 WRX.
I thought it was just a case of taking the cat pipe off, fitting the decat and away you go with no problems. Now I'm hearing of over-boosting leading to det and the like.
Its running the original ECU, so isnt mapped for UK fuel, but is always run on Optimax. I've had it for 18 months without using octane booster and haven't had any problems.
It also has a VTA dump valve (no lexus lights though
) but no other engine mods.
Are there likely to be any problems with just fitting the pipe and driving off on the standard ECU?
Cheers

BTW take the VTA dump valve off and put the standard recirc back on. Much better for the engine!

You should be fine but fitting a knocklink and boost gauge is really essential so you know whats going on inside... Its unlikely that you will see overboost as long as your restrictor hasn't been fiddled with etc...
If you can get a "scoobyecu" you will be much better off, and if really makes the car fly. Either that or an Apexi setup which is a step further.

Thanks for the responses, seems that it should be ok but would be even better with a re-map. Have been thinking about a knock link for a while now and will proably get one.
Have seen all the good vs bad threads on VTAs, but mine will be staying on. Not so bothered about the whoosh, more the pops and bangs with the decat that I'm after
