Default Coolant Temp

Right car has been in at Subaru 3 times for this but they still cant fix it - so your help would be greatly appreciated!

Fitted the Ecutek Data Monitor (i doubt this has anything to do with it but i'll put it into the equation) approx 3 weeks ago then a week later when I went to start the car the temp guage shot straight upto max and stayed there - because I had the data monitor I could see the temp was ok so I immediately booked it in. Came back could fix it so they sent for a wiring diagram again couldnt fix it. Needle started to jump from max to half way then jumps around a bit but still doesnt still normally - the 3rd time they changed the temp sender switch or something whcih helped for about 2 min then its started again.

Any one got any ideas? Could the data monitor be interfering?

Does the data monitor mirror what the gauge is doing? Does it do it with the data monitor removed?

well thats the thing I can tell via my data monitor that the temp is sitting normal when driving and the fan comes on when it should approx 96C.
