Default Another one......Tappets

VERY loud when the engine is cold. any way of sorting it???

Are you sure its the tappets??
What MY?

Could be pistonslap, bottom end.
Pre 97 had hydraulic tappets I think

Sounds like piston slap to some degree, was very common on sports of that MY. I had one, had mild slap on it. Only got rid coz bought a turbo.
Can obviously vary to the ammount of slap, but is ok with engine warm.
Use a good grade oil, not fully synth like most turbo owners, just used a good semi...not too thin.
My brother has my car, still going strong at 100k now.

Just to add... keep those regular oil changes..will go on forever..well almost.
I beleive its sometimes only one piston, No 3 springs to mind.
TBH dont know if its worth fixing moneywise.

cool, thats reasuring. so no need to worry as long as i look after it then? good old japanese engineering
