Default Question about AEM induction kit

I have bought the AEM cold air intake system for a couple of weeks ago. This weekend I am planning to mount the kit on my 05 STI.

The car has already a upgraded Wallbro fuel pump. But the ECU is stock.

Is it dangerous to mount the kit before I have a Ecutek or likewise on the car? I´ve heard from a company in Sweden that the car will take damage, but I haven´t read anything about it on the Internet or on AEM:s homepage.

Regards
Johan

Hi Johan,

I have fitted one to a MY02 STI PPP without having a remap and have not had any problems, I do have a Knock link, Lambda link and boost gauge so that I can check that there is no detting and the air/fuel ratio is OK.

AFAIK the main problem with induction kits comes from where the MAF sensor is located in the pipe, in some of the earlier kits the MAF was located just after a bend in the pipe, the way the air flow round the bend caused a false reading from the MAF sensor which resulted in the cars running lean and blow engines, I think this was sorted out in the later designs.

As I said I have one fitted and have been OK but I would suggest a knock and lambda link just so that you know whats happening under the bonnet.

Thank´s Scott :-D

What I understand is that AEM uses less oil on their filters due to HKS, Blitz and Greddy. That is one of the mainproblem when fitting a Cold Air to the car because the filters that have plenty of oil will damage the MAF sensor. The Cold air also takes the air from the underneath the car so it won´t suck in the air from the engine.

I will mount a knock-link to the car to. A boost gauge was standard on my car.

Here is a picture of my kit

Regards
Johan
