Default Sti 8, what mods to do

I'm collecting an STi 8 this week (hopefully), it already has an H&S decat centre, H&S backbox, performance air filter.

Would it benefit from a decat downpipe, I believe the up-pipe is already decat from new ? If so would a cheapie Mongoose/Magnex downpipe do or should I get one of the more expensive ones ?

If I don't need a downpipe what would be the next mod to do (I don't wan't to remap yet, that'll have to wait a while due to lack of funds and an already angry missus :-)

Cheers for you help

i`d stick with haywood and scott for the downpipe if you definately want one,my mates changed his and couldnt believe the difference, though means problems at mot time.I know putting the downpipe on bought his cel light on and it had to go to scoobyclinic for some small mod to sort it out, maybe someone could shed some light on why this is???(or i`ll ask my mate when i see him later)

Put a downpipe on it does aid spool up yes. Do you have PPP on it?

You will need the CEL fix for the Newage cars. Approx £30.

Downpipes you can choose from H&S, Scoobysport etc. etc.

No it's not PPP'd I will get it remapped (TEK3) later in the year, just wondered what my next step was really. I used to have a '98 Terzo and fitting a downpipe made a huge difference, just wondered if the STi8 would benefit from the same.

get it mapped at same time as decatted or your ecu will not like it and either got to safe mode or damage the engine if you are unlucky

A deffo must!
STi's are not too over keen on full decats, they can spike with them so its best to have the car remapped, id also go for a knocklink aswell

Oooops, good job I didn't do that then

Not got the cash to remap yet as the missus demanded a new kitchen and sofa if I was getting another scoob so it'll have to wait

Thanks for your replies

Ran my STI8 PPP with 2.5" Scoobysport downpipe, PPP centre section, Scoobysport Backbox and caused no issues, no det and or running lean. So....?!

get it mapped at same time as decatted or your ecu will not like it and either got to safe mode or damage the engine if you are unlucky

You sure? Can cause boost spikes on the later PPP cars but was fine on the earlier newage cars.

i know one dealer saw a spike of 1.7 on his decat.fair enough if you dont get problems but to take the chance when a remap and peace of mind is not that costly if you look around and squeeze discount out of people!
