Default Going to view 94 'L' WRX HELP!!**update**

Hi going to look at WRX tomorrow night it is a 94 L registration, 59000 miles, one owner since import 6 months ago. It has turbo timer, boost gauge, apexi dump valve and air filter kit and cusco fully adjustable strut tops. Adjustable struts and strut brace. Jap 4" exhaust, fontron f-65 alloy wheels and yokohama tyres. It is silver in colour and looks very clean. MOT'd till september 2005 and taxed for 4 months. There is no security on car at present. It is on ebay just now item no 4511528290.

What should I be looking for when I go to view this car and what do you think it is roughly worth?

if its on std wheels? cant tell from pick £4-4.5k would be fair
silver ones sell easy for some reason
have a look round it if its not rusty anywere and it starts and drives ok then theres not alot more you can ask-its over 10 yrs old after all

Check things like the clutch, has it been renewed recently, does it leak oil from the drivers side rocker cover. Has the cambelt been changed recently.What you want to avoid is those expensive bills just after getting the car.

General condition and owner care are a good indiacator, has it been run on Opitmax and fuel addative ?

When on a test drive, listen out for noises from gearbox, shouldnt be whiney, gears should select easily, apart from reverse (common scoob prob).

Apart from that as above.......

Don't seem to be having much luck with insurance quotes. £622 fully comp, protected no claims with admiral. That's with a named driver, cat 1 fitted and declaring lowered suspension and exhaust. That seems a lot to me but maybe it's not that bad-I don't know!

How old are you ?
And what are the conditions (Garaged, tracker etc)
My best quote was by Liverpool Victoria £750 with £250 excess

I'm 34 with full no claims

Sorry forgot to say I'm 30 live in scotland car will have cat1 alarm fitted, no tracker and parked on driveway overnight. £250 excess on insurance. Maybe not that bad after all then?

If I was you I would ask the above and connect the engine self diagnostic connectors together to see if all is ok. Lots of info on this and easily done, will show up a fault in electronic system.

Hi. Just back from looking at car. Very nice, very quick, but there are a few things i'm not sure about.
1. registration document says subaru impreza gl?? - but it's not a gl!
2. paint work not the best, would probably need full respray.
3. hasn't had clutch or timing belt changed since in uk, but pulled away fine in fifth gear at about 20ish mph.
No oil leaks or noises from gearbox. looks ok underneath. speedo still in kmph.
The guy said he would probably take £3500 for it which is well cheap. I have the chassis no: gc 8009530 from the v5. from the re-registering document, type of car E-gc8. Type of engine EJ20.
Can anyone tell me if these numbers relate to an impreza wrx? What do you guys think?

The only paperwork i saw for car was the v5, re-registration document, shipping invoice. Should there also be a SVA certificate ?

This is common, my MY93 WRX says the same thing on the log book

Is it scratched or just dull looking? A good polish might sort it, although they do suffer from road rash very easily (my bonnet looks like the surface of the moon!

Cambelt is due on the mileage thats on it, get some quotes as it's not cheap.

Check the oil level in the box, it's the dipstick at the back of the engine next to the intercooler

Should have had the cambelt done around 45k, looks like the guy just imported it cheap just as a run-around for a while, spending no money on it.
Difficult to say if really needs a clutch, give it some nice firm but quick throttle, see if it slips as the boost comes on.
Nock him off for that cam belt...not cheap to have it done.
Not sure if would have required an SVA when imported. He shouldnt have been able to register it if it did.
Check chassis number on car to V5
IMO paying more than £3,500 is a waste, but thats just me.

Thanks for info guys. Does anyone else's logbook's say gl although it's a wrx? - that doesn't sound right to me.

some early imports had the v5 wrongly done by dvla
this still goes on as ive has cars back as different makes
my evovi came back as a evoiv
dvla are clowns
if numbers check out vin tag bodyshell and logbook there should be no problems
and at £3500 you can afford to do the cambelt etc
cambelts £120 fitted tops
clutch is more like £300 fitted for a borg n beck item
