Type R, no ABS, does have DCCD though, shorter gears as per a Type RA, poss 10mph lower (though you could get one with a longer 5th gear).
Thats probably the biggest difference, and missing 2 doors

thanks

so it wont be 128mph right??

as i have had a 95 type ra and i love the acceleration but the top end speed is just too bad.....

just want to confirm as i will soon be getting a type r, but if the gearing is the same as the 95 type ra i will go for hte sti instead...

thanks

My 98 Type R had an indicated 20mph per 1000 repm in fifth. After about 4000rpm the oil starts to get hot on these cars. 80mph cruising, good for your licence.

I put the 5th Gear from a UK car of the same year into my Gearbox and now have 22mph per 1000mph (90mph Cruising). Its made the car much better to live with and although you have to get used to the 4-5 step, you get thesame first 4 gear accelleration which can easily take you to the TON before needing 5th anyway. More than enough for A/B roads.

AFAIK the P1 used the non type R/RA STI drivetrain and had 22/1000 top[ as well, although the prior 4 gears were more evenly spaced.
