Default Power FC Boost Setup

G'day

I finally managed to install the Power FC in my EDM GC8 98. I was surprised when I found that almost everything works smooth and perfectly.
However after a bit longer ride I noticed that I constantly get fuel cuts.
Now, what exactly can I change on the FC-commander concerning the boost Level? I can't understand that 1./2./3./4. thing, which one is used normaly? Moreover I do use an Apexi AVC-R with the Apexi Solenoid. On my AVC-R I have a boost set of 1.2 bar, on the Commander I set 1=1 bar / 2=1.05 bar / 3=1.2 bar / 4=1.3 bar
What can I do to stop getting fuel cuts?
Am i right to fit the AVC-R just as I would with the OEM Subaru ECU?

Unfortunately I didn't get the Datalogit Software so far as they seem to have some delivery problems at the moment...I gess with that software my problem would be easy to solve.

Look forward to hear from you guys, best regards from Switzerland, Chris

P.S. Is there any DIY install Instruction for a FSE Pres. Reg for a Scooby??

Sure someone here will answer your questions…

I am running a powerfc and a AVCr, I have disabled the boost control from within the setup of the powerfc.

When I was using the powerfc for boost, setting 1,2,3,4 are presets for different boost levels that can be changed upon driving styles like Setting A and B in the AVCr…though the powerfc is no where as good as the avcr in terms of usage and functionality.

Hello Sam

Thank's a lot for your quick reply! Where exactly can I disable the PFC Boost Controll? Is it in the Settings, ..., Boost and then there is something in Japanese, I guess it means enable/disable but it didn't stop my fuel cuts eather way!?
Concerning the Power FC Boost presets, how does the PFC know that it has to use Nbr. 1 or Nbr. 2/3/4 ? With the AVC-R it is quite clear where I am, in Setting A or B but how do I know if the PFC uses Setting 1,2,3 or 4?

I am feeling like a kid asking thousands of stupid questions *ggg* ; )

Regards Chris

Chris,

Have a read of this, mention’s how to disable the boost control Kit on the PFC.

http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/showthrea...13#post3858213

Also if you do a search for AVCr and Powerfc, you will find allot of your answers…

On the Powerfc, you have 4 numbers, which ever line is selected before you exit the screen is the active setting.

Hello again, thanks for your help Sam, your link is great however there is still not the answer I am looking for. Can you tell me which signal you neeeded to disconnect?
Map, +, -, ...??
Does the PFC make a fuel cut if the Duty Cycle reaches 100% ?

Nobody?
The oem Map for my Version 3/4 seems damn rich! Got AFR around 9-11 most of them are a low 10.

I turned the boost on the PFC up to 1.5 and set 1.2 on the AVC-R it seems better now but the car still goes like a ship in a strom (forward, beckward) when it gets close to 1.2 bar of boost. That can't be normal?!? At least it doesn't do a fuel cut (the Check Engine lamp) doesn't light up.

I connected the AVC-R just as I did it on the my oem ECU. The oem Solenoid I left in the engine bay connected.
In the PFC etc. Mode I switched the PFC Boost Kontroll off. I think it means "Natsu" in Japanese.

Cheers Chris

I assume you have corrected the ignition advance for a Euro spec car ? This version of PFC comes with maps for 100ron fuel and a different size of MAF sensor, hence the very rich mixtures.

Hello Andy

Thanks for your reply, no I didn't correct the timing yet as we do get qutie high octane fuel here in Switzerland. Is there anything I have to do with the MAF so??? I have never heard of that (shocked : ) )
Can you help me about my boost problems? Do I really need to disconnect a cable? I might just need to change the F/B Speed Settings?

75% across the board will get you close in some areas but it is not a linear function as far as maf voltage is concerned ie 75% of 5 volts is not the same airflow %age cut as 75% of 1 volt for example.
The timing may be as much as 8 degrees too far advanced in places, the supplied map is typical of Sti timing advance.

singang - i havent read all the posts so some one might have already asked this but do you have any mapping experience because not just anyone can set up a power fc. if you get any of the timing/fuel setting wrong the engine could run lean pre det or knock, in other words it will go bang.

when i had my pfc set up rc developments set it up for me these guys strap a few £k's worth of equipment to the car to set it up correctly. just make sure you take your car to somone who does this sort of thing all the time.

Craig

I'm just trying to help out some guys in other countrys who don't have a local mapper.
This is not intended as a DIY mapping thread, just a few hints in the general right direction.

Hey guys, my scooby runs quite nicely and safe now thanks to Andy!!! The difference from my first post in this thread to now is huge!
My AFR has gone back nicely to around where it should. The timing also seems to be good as I have almost no knocking. A max. from about 9 to 10.
The boost problems are also fixed, my problem wasn't the PFC itself it was the duty on my AVC-R which was of no use ; ). It constatly overshooted from 3rd to 5th gear. I did change the start dutys manually and also the boost levels from 0 to 7000 RPM. I set the boost on the PFC to 1.3 Bar where it gets a FC at 1.325 Bar which I never reach as my max boost is set to 1.2 bar on the AVC-R. Thanks to the duty I hardly ever overshoot.
I still have plenty of things to set but so far it seems safe. One thing which I also noticed is the Injector duty which sometimes reaches 100% thanks to my small 380 cc Injectors. At first that happened at almost every run as my AFR was much to high, now after the great help from Andy I seldom reach the 100% mark. However need to swap that quickly before they explode ; )

Did anyone here set back the Injector Value from 100 % to about 85 % as our Injectors only have 380cc about 85% of the size of the STI ones ?? I heard that there was an STI Version (old age) using 520cc Injectors?!? What is the PFC set for?
