Question P1 problem

Driving home form work last week the engine started to knock ( only had the car two weeks ) so I took it back to the subaru dealer. after a lot of farting about I was informed the car needed a new crank shaft, oil pump, con rods and bearings, the service chap told me it was down to oil starvation.

Is this normal on the P1, the car has 60'000 on the clock

I think 'normal' would be stretching a point, but it's far from uncommon. That's very bad luck, but you're in good company - my car suffered an identical failure at 60k too.

On the bright side, it should be covered under warranty, and since the fix is usually a whole new bottom end, you're getting most of a new engine.

Beggers belief that a car with only 60k should suffer oil starvation?
