Default 03 sti ppp tuning

what will it take plus cost to get 400/400 from above car, went for a test drive in a fq340 a cpl of weks ago, loved it , got offerd 18,000 for mine in px, cant really warrent the loss plus the extra for the 340 for a car that only gets used every 2 weeks at the weekends, so this is my next idea, any info pls, maybe 2.5 block ?

2.5 block and headgaskets cost about £1200-1300. You'll also need coolant and oil for the swap, and the labour. 400/400 is a good place to stop with the 2.5 for reliability and driveability IMHO.

You'll need a bigger turbo to get your 400 BHP, I think your PPP fuel system might be OK but you'll need the ECU to be reprogrammed. A replacement exhaust manifold and induction system will help in making the power with less boost and heat. I think you'll probably need about 1.4 bar for the 400 lbft, and about 1.2 bar for 400 BHP on the 2.5. I would choose a TD05/06-20G turbo for this, and you should make your desired figures, or near to them without using octane booster. You'll have a very driveable car that would likely make similar torque at 2500 RPM to what your PPP makes as its peak, and will make more power at 4000 RPM than the PPP ever manages as well. You'd be best to limit your red line to a few hundred lower than the STi - I use 7300 RPM on mine, but usually change at 7000 RPM.

Look into the insurance implications of the change in cc.

Just go for everything else the same. Power band will be narrower and charge temperatures and cylinder pressures will be a bit high on standard internals to chase 400 lbft IMHO. 350 lbft would be a more realistic target, but will still need a fair bit of boost, which may cause some turbos to either overspeed or surge, so you would end up with a bigger turbo, even narrower power band etc etc.

To help you decide, try and get a run in a 2.5 engined Scooby running good torque and a 2.0 with a Garrett/IHI type bolt on turbo and decide which suits your driving style best. A few tuning companies are putting together 2.5 demonstrators I hear. All down to individual preference.
