Default bugeye ECU's

Can someone tell me if there are differing ECU's on bugeye model years? Im sure ive read somewhere that the first of the bugeye had a differant ECU from later ones due to the programming in them being poor originally.
Is this true and also is it possible for dealers to reprogramme ECU to newer data, I know that my dealership can but we work on an other marque.

They made a change to the up pipe on the my02 bugs so presume they altered the map in some way, think it was something to do with making the car smoother lower down the rev range.

AFAIK the ECU's are the same...... what was diffierent was the way the Prodrive PPP was engineered.

Early PPP's had a piggyback ECU and later models had a remapped one...but might be completely wrong..
