Default MY53 STi slack throttle cable

My throttle cable is slack between the "adjuster?" and the cam it runs over, probably a good 5mm. Is this normal? Should I take up the slack and if I do would it have any negative effect say on throttle scale?? Also since PPP the idle seems lower at around 500 rpm?

I bet there's a good many other cars out there with a slack cable - and wonder why they can't get full power.
I had to tighten mine after a couple of months from new.

Don't know about the idle though - it should be 700-750 rpm?
Perhaps take up the slack and then reset the ECU may cure this?
The ECU can only be done by the dealer or if you have access to the ECU via a PSI or delta dash etc - go back to the dealer and complain about the idle problem, poor PPP performance, point out the cable and chances are they'll do it there and then as its a quick job.

Cheers Nick, reckon your right on full throttle, foot to the floor (engine off!) and cable end is not back to stop. It'll be due a service soon, will see what they have to say.

Adjusting the cable is a 5 minute job. Look at the amount of slack in the cable when the engine is running (ticking over) before adjusting. Don't over tighten it (I did - very slightly and it caused a kind of oscillating boost for a second or so after I floored it. ) The cable will stretch in normal usage, so it's just something you need to do every year or so.

I haven't looked at the cable attachement area recently, but you may find that the idle speed is adjusted by a separate screw, not the slack adjustment nut.

thanks for the response. I reckon it's been like that from new as it's only done 6k.

idle speed is adjusted electronically via the select moniter that way it doesn't mess up the throttle position sensor
