Default Headers power loss or gain?

I`ve been told that some headers dont work well, and some do...
Tsl`s Richard Bulmer told me that their own make work well(he would say that though)
Powerengineering has struggled with headers to make any more power.

Its for a MY95(td05 turbo)

Who has any experience with these?
Ie hard rolling road power plots etc.

Typically aftermarket headers are bigger diameter than the standard ones. This can help top end power at the expense of spool. Equal length headers are supposed to be more efficient compared to unequal of the same type/make but you lose the scooby burble/rumble.

There's a good review on one of the state-side websites. All the headers they tried lost out on spool up to the standard ones but made better top-end power.

Look at the autospeed web site. They have done a comparison.

I think headers on there own will not yeild much on a stock engine. As part of a package with complimentary mods then they will play a good part in achieving a high-end engine or an engine with a torque bias etc as you can tune the parts to suit.

Not sure if that helps you at all.

think you need to be more specific with your question *****..

what are your goals for you car? certain types of headers have different characteristics that change the way your car drives..
do you have a remap? or are planning one?

what do you want? torque lower down? top end screamers?
lots of factors to take into consideration..

[shameless plug]
if its top end screamers you want (that still provide far more troque lower down than standard OE headers- but not as much as GruppeS IIRC) look here

IIRC the autospeed conclusion was that ported std headers were a good compromise due to the cast construction retaining far more heat - better low down spool. The SS headers were good at midrange and top end to varying degrees.

Yes I`m having the car remapped,
I`m after the similar spool up as I have now but I`m afetr gains all through the rev range.
Is it worth just changing the up pipe on its own maybe?
I`m trying to get 280bhp and good torque(280lb ft) from the car as easily as possible.
Drivablilty is the important factor.

Does that help?
Thanks for all your comments so far.

gains all throught the rev range will happen- but more importantly; what is the 'curve' like?

IIRC, changing the up-pipe only wont do much. especially in conjunction with a remap..
driveability- depends on your style of driving and the circumstances you drive in.
all headers SHOULD provide gains over OE equipment with a good remap.
its definitions of improvement that need to be established.

imo- low down grunt and 'angry' mid range gruppeS are meant to be the best- I have just bought some.
top end screamers for high speed grunt- HKS/OBX other equal length headers
just my opinion..
