Default Intercooler cleaning.............

.........anybody ever done this and if so, what effects did it have if any ?

Heard a story today from an owner that straightened all the fins and after taking the intercooler off, gave it a thorough cleaning out and removed plenty of crap etc etc........

Any thoughts ladies and gents?

Skoosh.

Hi Skoosh

I use a cocktail stick to flick out any bugs, then run the stick between the fins to staighten them up.

Cheers Red

I did this just yesterday. I removed the intercooler and ran a hosepipe through the fins to remove the bugs etc. and then straightened the fins. Finally, I filled the core with petrol and let it soak a while. On pouring out the petrol, it was a nice black colour so it obviously had some oil coating the internals.

Any performance increase though after cleaning is undectectable.

Well, petrol dissolves oil quite quickly and is relatively cheap in the quantity needed to fill the i/c. Any residue left in the i/c will be burnt naturally in the engine. I didn't want to use anything else in case it reacted with the internals.
