Default The MY04 WRX and a few simple Q`s

Hi

Can anyone help with a few silly questions on the MYO4 WRX and a few comparrisons please ?

1 Is the MY04 WRX a firmer ride than the MY00 UK ? or could it do with a set of eibachs like the MY00
2 How much better is the build quality on a WRX MY04? compared to MY00 and MY02 bugeye ?
3 Does a magnex back box and Centre de-cat pipe for a MYOO fit on a MY04 WRX ?
4 Would a chrome gater surround for a MY00 fit a MY04 WRX ?
5 If you re-map a WRX at TSL or power eng etc can it be detected by an official Subaru garage and effect warrenty ?
6 Does a MYO4 WRX have better breaks than MYOO or larger discs etc
7 What components does a MY04 WRX share with STI Version UK spec i.e intercooler or exhaust or ECU etc etc
8 Does the MY03 Bugeye share the same internals and cabin layout as the MY04 WRX or any other differences other than estetics?

9 If the MYO4 WRX produces more torq than a UK MY00 ,was this done by mapping adjustments ?

10 Where There any updates from a MY03 WRX to the MY04 WRX

11 It the classic is a classic and a bugeye is a bugeye than whats the MY04 WRX nick named as ?

Did try the search, got some answers but guessed there was someone on scoobnet who would know all the above

I'll have a go:

1) No, in fact the ride on the WRX is much more compliant than any classic. I like it a lot.
2) I don't think much has changed between MY02 and MY04; the cabin is quieter and feels more solid than MY00 and it feels classier and less cluttered somehow - though there can still be a few squeaks and rattles. (I cured most of the squeaking in my MY00 by going round the car wiping a WD40-soaked rag along where pieces of trim met and rubbed against each other. My only regret is that it took me a year from new to get round to doing it - I hated the car until it was done).
3) Dunno.
4) Probably not, best ask Nitosport.
5) The warranty is void if you remap the car. If you rely on the garage not to detect it and obtain warranty service that wouldn't otherwise have been provided, it's called 'obtaining goods by deception' which is an offence for which you can go to jail. Best not to take the risk, eh?
6) I think they're actually the same as, or similar to, the MY00 4-pots.
7) Very few. The STI has a different engine, brakes, suspension, ECU, interior, wheels, drivetrain... get the idea? (I think the light clusters and window glass are the same).
8) The bugeye models were MY01-MY02; MY03 and 04 are virtually identical. The only real difference between the two is indeed aesthetics, although I think the 225bhp engine came in for '04 (up from 215 in '03).
9) The '04 car's engine is about 80% new compared to '00 - it's remarkable that the power and torque figures are as similar as they are. Of course the maps are different, but so's the intake system, exhaust, ECU, heads, cams...
10) Slight power increase and a square boot lock, I believe. (Or maybe the 225bhp engine was new in '03, I forget).
11) 'Blobeye'

Ill agree with all of that

Just to clarify though both MY03 and MY04 are blobeyes and have the 225 bhp engine. The only difference is indeed the square bootlock and also colour coded sills on the MY04.

Couldn't remember when the 225bhp upgrade came in - thanks for clearing that up.

I've a feeling a light was added around the ignition key at some point too, as another trivial change between one MY and the next. Maybe that was for '03 too?

Good choice, I really wanted a black one when I bought my MY04 but chickened out and bought a silver, worried about keeping it clean.

Its a great car, I am sure you will be delighted.

BTW. If memory serves, you only get 225bhp if the car is run on Super unleaded!

Best.

Virgin just bought a black one myself. Was concerned about the difference between my old MY99 slightly modded and the new 04 WRX. It only has 250 miles on it but its looks like i am not going to be dissapointed, the power delivery is lovely and thats without going over 4000 revs. Check out http://dominiclynch8232.fotopic.net/

Any other specific questions PM me,

You will not be dissapointed. If you want specific pics of anything just ask

Yes, but i want to do a few thousand miles first just to settle the car in. Nothing major as i want to keep my warranty, maybe PPP or at least exhaust system and STI panel filter.

You found that link to pflowers motor yet

yeah thats about the right price. I am not sure what back box to go for at the moment but it is unbelievably quiet its untrue. i thought mayube a little burble but no, you can not even tell the engine is started when you sit in it. Still running low revs at the mo no more than 4000k maybe its gets a little burble at 6500

1000 miles is the first service. The book says keep it under 4000 revs, and thats what i am doing. the first 100 miles thing just didnt want to go, but now it is getting more lively having to keep a real close eye on the revs.
