De-catted exhausts
Hi guys and girls, sorry about this but i need your help once again.
I'm still looking to but my first Scooby, but have concerns about the amount that have de-catted exhausts.
I have the sad misfortune of working for the old bill (I'm not a rozzer, i'm just being punished for sins in a previous life) and park my car every day on police premises.
As good as the large 5" exhausts look and sound i'm a bit concerned about emissions.
I understand that local councils now have the power to stop and test you at the roadside for emissions and if you fail the car is removed off the road (ouch).
I know it's not illegal to de-cat exhausts, but how do you ensure that you keep emission level within the legal set limit (what ever they are)
The other questions is well the flipping hell to you gat the car's MOt'd, or do they just test as if it was a normal older car without a cat?
The last thing i wasnt is to buy my first scooby, be oh so very proud, then have some power hungry twit of a probationer or rat (traffic officer) stick me on. (As you can see, no love lost between civvies and police)
I'm probably just having another blonde moment, but you advise would be greatly apprciated xx

Cars I've had a decat put on get through MOT's by the ball-ache of having the cat put back on for the MOT, then off again afterwards. My last car with full decat (Fiat 20v Turbo) passed 2 MOTs without a cat and so did a Vectra GSI I had. As for getting pulled and on the spot check.....just a game of luck I suppose.

As for the cat, you could get a hi-flow sports cat (expensive) or just go through the ache of popping it on and off...doesn't have to be a great job. Chances are it'll pass for emissions but may fail for leaking if not fitted well...but come any (free) retest, they'll only retest the leak, not the emissions. Have a word with the tester before hand and give it the "you know and I know" routine and see what they say.
