Cool Help on which mods for MY98...(TD05 Upgrade)

Right...this is the thread that will help me decide on what I should do to my car...I hope....

MY98 Car Mods at present are as follow:

Apexi ECU
Apexi Power FC Commander
Apexi POT 3 Boost Solenoid Kit
Apexi Induction Kit sti 5
Iridium Spark Plugs
Walbro Fuel Pump
Walbro Fuel Pressure Regulator
Blitz Nur-Spec R System 4” Tail with Jap Innovations De-Cat Down-Pipe
TD04

Blitz ID Meter
Blitz DCII FAT
Blitz Boost and Oil Tem Gauge

At present my car is producing near 280BHP.

What I am trying to achieve:

With a TD05, I am hoping for near 340BHP (at a safe level I hope)

From my other posts in order for me to achieve the 340bhp I will need to do certain other mods. However my budget is very limited and can not afford a FMIC. I have been spending allot of time reading thorugh peoples posts for advise and help...

On the list so far I have:

APS Top Mount Intercooler
Oil Catch Can
Maybe water injection for the TMIC

Any thoughts here are welcome….

TD05 and APS top mount should see you close. Water injection will reduce the power unless it's mapped for it. If it is mapped for it and a bit of crap clogs that tiny nozzle you're in trouble.

£APS TMIC + £Water Inj = £FMIC

I see where your comming from, but FMIC, means curring the front bumper and i was tryign to avoid that....+ i cant hide something like that from the miss's

I can get the APS TMIC maybe one month then the water injection if needed another and so on.....

The car will be mapped on completion of all the work..

I'm going to be using an STi 6 TMIC on mine mate. Should do the job. You can also DIY a waterspray kit for it.

You're missus wont notice the intercooler if you buy a Lateral FMIC & radiator, theres no bumper cutting required as it sits in the space where your radiator sits. Massive core and its proven at over 550 hp so far. TD05 FE turbo will run up to 360~370 if pushed, then you can upgrade it at a later date to an 05/06 hybrid to see over 400

Wont that be far in excess of his needs though! Get one far bigger than you need and presumably you'll get more lag. It'll already be quite a narrow power band as the UK ones aren't too revvy?

Not neccessarily, its not just about how big the intercooler is, how well it flows plays a huge part, the good thing about the Lateral FMIC is that the feed and return pipes are very short, even more so if you reverse the manifold. Lateral also have the same design FMIC / rad assembly for the guys looking to stay around 350-400 hp. All depends how far you want to take it

My TD05....had go little play in the shaft.. Left to Right...only minor....no play Up and Down..

Is this something to worry about? The Turbo was serviced and converted just before i bought it...?

Steve can you send me a pic of your intercooler?

BOB'5 The TD05/06 reacts like a suprisingly small turbo given the compressor size, yet holds boost all the way to the top at my level. Headers 20G, full de-cat, aps top mount. 1.3 to 1.5 bar

TD05 Fitted today... (ROB.....great job)

Would you believe if i tould you that i had a downpipe fitted by Japinovations last month, they missed out one bolt..! (turbo to downpipe)

Rather annoyed at the fact that i paid them good money and they still missed out a bolt and managed to thread my Lamba sensor (apparantly it happen to 1 in every 3 cars according to them!)

Whats next?

Thumbs up

Bob,

TD05, feels strong when it comes in...but does fee little Laggy.....

Im just little concerend that Rob mentioned that when his Turbo's have been serviced by Andy they have not come back looking like mine was...

But still have had no response back from Jap-innovations who say the Turbo was serviced by Andy....

Otherwise...i think it will grow on me...

Just have to get the map done...which will take sometime...

A map should make it much better. I think it was steve who disliked his when first fitted but once it was mapped he was very happy with it.

Whats the exact spec now then?

Bob...

Took the car out today...down the A4...nice strech of road...i have to say when the Turbo comes in..it comes in hard till the end....So well that that i did not want to change gear, and red lined it! Did it 2wice, but have not got the hang of it...

Playing with the ignition map...have got allot better performance out of it...

As for my up-pipe, after the turbo had been fitted, we noticed that there was a blow comming from the up-pipe, so it will need to be replaced...

Any recomendations as to which one and how much i shouldl be looking at for the part... (no 2nd had stuff, have been put off for life)

Also the header...(new to me so will have to explain how this works)

There was a GB on Gruppe-s headers and up-pipes which was around £350 mark.

I've got ported headers and 2" H&S up-pipe going on mine which isnt as good as the gruppe-s headers but is still effective.

Mapping it yourself?...your more brave than me.

TD05 sounds like fun.

Mapping...

I have a friend how uses the Fc on a regular basis...but does not have much time to sort my car out..so hes pointing me in the right direction...

Think i will get there eventually...

Boost is giving me alittle problem...

What is your initial boost and the Boost duty set to? Do you use the fc commander to control the boost?

http://www.drmotorsport.co.uk/

try him for the 'un-equal' length headers, includes up-pipe,gaskets and bolts.
which were sent seperate and a little too long :-(
but 450 quid delivered can't be bad.

sti 8 tmic is nice but it isnt really practical, ive got one on mine but my uprated tmic was easier, not too sure on which would give the best result, my only reason for changing mine was andyf said he didnt see much diference in charge temps from his sti 8 TMIC to his beasty looking thing he has now but as far as a td05 goes i wouldnt of thought there was any great need to fit an sti8intercooler

Bob,

What kind of power are you running? How does the car behave on a warmish day?
