Default Turbo Charger Balance

i have a question

you have a perfect turbo

it sucks a bitnof crap or such past the filter and ends up bending a blade or simmiler, only you dont notice it until next time you take the turbo offfor what ever reason

you will then have been useing a turbo thats out of balance yes?

now these turbos spin as sum serious RPM and i relise that a out of balance setup will give rise to vibration and such, this should wear the bearings out faster, but does it wear them out much faster??

or is it neglible?

if you have out of balance wheels, will they wear your wheel bearings out faster?

if you had 2 turbos exactly the same except 1 had a bent blade which wasnt balanced, what kind of mile would you expect from the bent one?

i have parts to repair my vf 23, but when i reassemble them the setup wont be balanced up, i thought about just putting it back togther and see how long i could get from it before upgrading to sumthing bigger, but i dont fancy it if its going to die within 2 months etc etc

views?

Thats a really difficult one to predict, in terms of life. Depending on the degree of bend on a blade, you will get a drop in the efficiency as its ability to compress air is reduced. I short, you may get some increased load on the thrust bearings, or even actual rapid thrusting, but again this is difficult to predict.

Quite difficult for anything of a damaging size to get through the filter though?

For a small fee I can come and use some rather hi tech vibration monitoring equioment on it and tell you if its showing out of balance hamonics

If you know its bent, best to remove it as im sure you know what happens when a compressor wheel lets go More cost effective and safe to change it.

Straightening it will weaken it, depending on the material, not sure what these baldes are made from. Will be better balanced but may be more prone to pinging off!

Whack that boost on there!

You might also get alluminium filings come away from the compressor housing and into the combustion chamber. That would cause a big problem.

I wouldnt take a chance with a turbo that has had any sort of damage to the wheel.
