Default Air Supply to APS cold air intake

Hi all I've just fitted an APS caik after much fiddling and cursing and wonder if it is necessary to cut away any of the plastic splashguards underneath to let air in or does enough get in as it is? I don't want to let dirt or water in but obviously don't want to strangle the intake either. What's the recommendation from you guys?

How much power are you looking for?

I've got an APS CAIK (small diameter) on my JDM STi 9. It seems to flow enough air for approx 340-350bhp. I have left all the plastic undertrays etc in place.

Nathan..

I'm hoping to be not a million miles away from you power wise after AndyF has worked his magic next Wednesday I think that you have answered my question though. Thanks.
