Default Decat downpipe

Hi folks, after a bit of advice from those in the know.

Car is an MY97 import wrx, the 280 ps version.
Intend to swap straight through centre for a power eng. hi-flow cat centre;
swap OE downpipe (with cat) for decat one.
Is it probable I would get boost spikes/creep with this ??

And if so how can i get around it ?

Cheers

Glenn

A few friends and i, who have FULL DECATS on our scoobies dont experience boost spikes but for some reason if you do, look at getting a dawes device to control the boost (do a search on here)

Or you could try increasing the hole in the brass restricter thingy. Do a search as it's been covered loads.

i found the fuel cut was very, very high on my 97 wrx

and it had a hard time controlling boost with just a cat back exhaust

i fitted a dawse device to control boost and its been fine ever scince

1.4 bar lol

although its normaly about 1.37ish
mine fuels fine and doesnt pink/knock

i found my Fuel Cut was at 1.45bar

but i would recomend caution if you try the same, mine seams to be a bit freaky regarding its ecu (looks stock but doesnt act like it )

trust me it loves it

editited to add that it doesnt run 1.4 bar at the mo as i snapped a compressor inlet wheel blade on the vf23

(got a poor td04 on at the mo as a spare 1.25bar lol )

got a vf30 lined up in the next few weeks, will be fitting the p20 houseing to that from the 23 and running it at 1.4 bar as well

after a new clutch it will be time to hit the strip and nail my best time

mine was spiking to 1.35 and holding 1.1 ish

you should have a vf22 turbo on yours which is rated to about 400bhp although the compressor wheels are pretty fragile if pushed hard, i killed mine after about 7 months when i started turning the boost up

i fitted a cat back system, pannel filter and a dawse set to 1.05 bar and pushed out 280bhp and 260lbft torque (more torque then the sti model!) there pretty good cars imo, i would definatly recomend one for a cheap performance bargin

would be very, very, very intresing if yours had such a high fuel cut level

Power delivery is quite nice, 1.1 bar steady as u like.
Will have to see about puttin on the PE hi-flow cat and get a new downpipe, then should be nice.

Dazza

There's lots of arguments but 1 bar = 14.7 PSI as near as dammit

1.4 bar = just over 20 PSI

PS Sticky........ the rumour I heard was that you were rear ended and couldn't get a white to match

thats actualy quite close to the truth, although i wasnt rear ended, it was damaged on the boat from japan and the bodyshop did a crap job blending it in, i used this to haggle down the cost of the car (knocked £500 off )

then booked it in to get it all fixed and the bodyshop efused to paint it as they couldnt geta good enough match, they wanted £2000 to respray it properlly for a proper paint job, it cost me £300 to have them do the red (i stripped it all down)

saved me a large amount of money

lol i had to kinda negotiate with the bodyshop owner to do it

i went to the body shop with that cossie pic and said "i want this"

the bloke replied
"ive never done anything like it before your mad"

he paints well but hes not a "modded car" style painter, if you know what i mean, we had to plan out how the **** you mask it up and stuff lol, was a good laff, had my doubts till i saw it all masked up

then when i went to pick it up and it was in the car park all stripped down my stomach churned, looked sooo wrong imo, was a bit gutted, bolted it all back together and loved it, just needed all the little black bits and stuff

need sum new graphics for the front

might get "1.45 bar fuel-cut motorsport" in big red letters
