Default Big Fright this mornin'

Starting from cold this morning ,for the first time I got a horrendous(sp)metallic tappet noise. After about 4 miles tic tic tic noise gone, obviously I've read on here they are prone to a lot of noise on cold starting but mine's has started very suddenly, car's been in the garage since last Thursday .
Its due an oil change hopefully this goes someway of dulling the noise a bit.
Any tips on best oil, cars a '95 WRX done about 60k

In a '95 you'll have hydraulic valve lifters, so a bit of tapping is possible after a few days lay-up, but should go quite quickly. If they're original and you've done a fair mileage, they could soon be up for replacement.
You have to be a bit wary of too thick an oil with hydraulic lifters, they'll take a little longer to pressurise and on some examples have been known to pump-up, stopping the valve from fully closing at high revs., although I'm not sure if this applies to Subaru items.
