Default i/c spray

I am a newbie to scoobys and I have just bought my first car, a 2000 Jap import Sti. These questions may sound dumb but can anyone help me! Thanks

1) What exactly is the I/C Spray switch for in the car. It has an AUTO setting and a manual one.

2) If I use the auto one it uses a full tank of water every 100miles. Why does it use is so quick? Do i need to use it?

3) If i decide to use the manual option, when do i press it? how dod i know?

Thanks in advance!

I/C spray is for the intercooler. If its the same as my Type-R's one when you go over a certain boost level it will stray water onto the intercooler to lower charge temps.

AUTO setting does the automatic spray with boost while Manual just sprays while you have the button pressed.

The water bottle is so small I think it holds bout 3 litres. Most people get bigger bottles put in the boot.

Do you notice a difference when the AUTO is on?

I have not turned the auto off yet, as I didn't want to damage the car.

Does anyone know if it's ok to run it without I/C spray? (or how often the manual spray should be used?)

IMHO, don't worry as much about the water spray as the fuel!! Sorry if you know this already, but I always get shivers about JDM cars being flogged on UK fuel.

Det is your #1 enemy, and UK fuel is not what the Japanese juice is There are any number of threads on this topic, but your #1 route IMHO, is to get your car tuned for UK fuel. A knocklink being a decent idea too.
