Unhappy cold starting problems

anyone offer any advice please.
about once a week, my 98 uk turbo wont start from cold. it just fires once, and if you dont catch the throttle straight away, it dies, and will not even fire again for a good 5 minutes, then eventually splutters into life, and runs very rough (wont tick over) until its warmed up a bit.
most of the time it starts ok,but tick s over a bit rough until warm.
done an ecu reset and checked maf. had plugs changed 3000 mls ago.
always seems to fail me when there is a crowd around too, like leaving work today and it wouldnt go.
any ideas please?
cheers.
p.s. car standard apart from full de-cat.

At the front of the engine below the alternator, it screws into the block, looks like a bolt with a wire coming off it.

dont touch the throttle during startup. it can muck the fueling up.
my '97 sometimes does similar. fires but not completly. then, if you try it again, it just cranks. i think it just floods.
turn it off. wait 10 seconds. do it all again - NOT touching the throttle. seems to work for me.
