Red face Overfueling problem ?

I changed the fuel pump in my 98 Turbo yesterday to a Walbro 255, having changed the TD04 for a TD05 and fitted an FPR last week.

I noticed that the fuel pressure had moved up to 3.8 bar, but thought I could adjust it tonight.....

However, within 40 miles of driving this morning (I am driving under 4k revs and .2 bar) I've hit a problem. (Ran OK for 40 miles)

The car appears to be massively overfueling, thick black sooty smoke, won't run over 2K revs, doesn't produce any boost at all (i.e.0 bar). I've limped home, but the car is mis-firing badly.
I've adjusted the FPR to 3 bar, but it doesn't seem to have improved..

Also, the AFR is blue - I have no CEL lights, the 'best' way to keep the car running is to keep it under load (high gear, lots of throttle) - Also, the AFR remains lit, even after the ignition is switched off, for about 10 seconds....

Is it possible that the extra pressure from the pump has simply fouled the plugs, and now they fouled the unburnt fuel is preventing me from remedying the situation ?

Or (this has been suggested by a local garage), that the turbo has somehow blocked the exhaust and is causing the problem (not sure I really believe this..)

I am going to let the car cool and change the plugs for some new ones - then see how the car runs, now that the pressure is turned down - I could change the pump back, but wonder if it would run OK anyhow, now the plugs are F.....d...

ANY help/ideas would be welcome,

thanks,

Mark

I've just finished changing the plugs (planned anyhow, but not today...) and whilst on the O/S, I've seen that the hose connecting the first and second pipes on the Hybrid FMIC has blown off at one end - I think this has happened to someone else....

Anyhow, I've re-connected and replaced the clamps with better ones - I'll see if its OK when I start her....

I guess this could cause the probs - No boost, as turbo is disconnected from inlet, MAF sensor readings wild, cos air 'pouring' in, bypassing sensor - All the plugs were completely sooted up...

I'll post my results....

And the jury says - 'SORTED!'

I guess the clue was in the lack of +ve boost, but I was looking at the fuel symptoms more, because I changed the pump yesterday...

Oh well, Live and Learn (hopefully )

err - I'll bet -

Of Course, I would be overtaking a tractor at the time, with a queue of 20 cars ready to follow - Then had to put on the hazard lights, let the tractor UNDERTAKE and pull over...... bugg3r...

Still - Now I've a nice Yaris to drive for 4 days. .....
