Question in two minds about mods for my bugeye! HELP

hey guys, i've been looking around for a while to find the right mods for my bugeye, to push around 350bhp. so far i have a full decat. and so want to uprate things now. at the moment i'm choosing between the following:

Walbro 255 lph Fuel Pump - w/ 02+ WRX Setup Kit
STi Injectors 565 CC - 02+ WRX
IHI VF34 Turbo w/ Gaskets
and to have this all remapped by TSL

or exactly the same except with a FE TD05, and then remapped by TSL. i am still on the look out for a bigger TMIC, 2nd hand STi preferably.
so what do people think?

i can get the IHI package for circa 700 quid, then pay for remap. or pay around 450 for the FE TD05, then source the rest. so as usually anyhelp appreciated

Scoobydoo

I went for the front entry TD05 as it has a reputation as a pretty tough turbo with good spool up and airflow. Here's a list of what I did..

TD05 front entry conversion turbo
STi Intercooler
Samco Silicon hoses
Sti Pink Injectors
FSE fuel pump
FSE fuel pump regulator
EcuTeK 3 Custom re-map by BRD (Bob Rawle) 1.38 bar max
Ported and wrapped headers
NGK PR7 plugs
Haywood and Scott full de-cat
TSL centre section
Magnex oval 6X4 back box
K & N filter

325 BHP (Well Lane) and used as a daily driver

All IMHO

Hi Martin...... Back from the yorkshire show .

Scoobydoo

It's best not to take a leap in the dark, find someone who has modded the car like *you* would like and which works and then copy them !!! Let other people experiment !!

LOL at Martin as I copied his successful "jump" into TD05 territory and I'm now getting the bits together to copy what he has done.

again, all IMHO

one final tip...

do not plan mods late at night, with a few beers, credit card at the ready while looking at e-bay...

The utter rubbish I have bought makes me cry

guys thanks for your help, i have indeed been taking advise that i was given before (a while ago) from a Martin Metaclif, i'm not sure if thats the same martin that Ninnybobs is though. I intend to have the silicon hoses, and spark plugs done too, just like you guys. i have just secured getting myself a TD05 turbo, and will be sending it to Andy F to have it converted is a fuel pump regulator a requirement? if so, where can i get one? as i know where i am getting all my other parts. also Ninnybobs, do you still have that STi bonnet scoop available? as i would like to take this off your hands in the next week or so.
thanks guys

ScoobyDoo69
PS what kind of 1/4miles times am i looking at with this setup?

Scoobydoo..

Yep........The very same; Martin Metcalf = Ninnybobs... a total gent

I got my FPR from Mark Aigin at Lateral Performance (arrived next day) but check around.

Don't forget to get some better oil. I have just bought some Motul MV300 from Alyn at asperformance.com for a great price.

Scoobydoo69,

Midlife and myself have shared many a late night email with 'tails of woe' about getting it wrong. Hopefully, we are now getting it right.

I have been very fortunate to have some excellent advice and assistance from the likes of Harvey, JonnyGav and Bob Rawle. I cannot claim that it is all my own work!!

Would recommend Alyn at AS Performance for your FPR

12.85secs for 1/4 mile at Scoobyshootout II

Cheers

Are you guys running standard transmission?

So far I've only got a full decat, tek3, STI top mount and STI air filter. Worried if I go any further the clutch/gearbox wont be able to cope with the power (daily driver also)

Chris,

Original transmission and clutch which has now covered 47k miles.

This included 8 RWYB days at Elvington consisting of possibly 100+ 5k revs launches.

Gearbox and clutch holding up well (looks around frantically for some wood to touch)

Cheers

Chris

Like Ninnybobs I run with the original transmission. I hated the long throw and went for a Prodrive Quickshift........feels better but needs a bit more of a grunt to move the lever.

any more thoughts on your scoop ??

dificult call on flywheel, has not effected the running of the car ie no idle problems, fun to drive @ the pod and on the road, no extra performance gain.

pulley is a good idea as I believe that does give ponies, and is so easy to fit.

The torque, well I must have got the intake/exhaust spot on when you think my01 is 215bhp standard lol and pats magic fingers.

You should get a FMIC and bigger than 560 cc/min injectors to make 350 bhp. It will be more reliable that way
