Question Link ECU Failing MOT

Had the dreaded mot done on my MY00 recently and it failed the fast idle test, this is of course because my Link Ecu was fitted at the time.

Is this normal? is there anyway of getting the Link through the test or do I have to refit the oe ecu and maf.

The reason I ask is I am toying with the idea of completely removing the maf from the car and fitting a silicone intake pipe without the black plastic maf holder.

Jake.

Yes this is normal, even a tweak to my Link map didn't get me past. You will need to have one cat in place the original ECU and a MAF. Then you will pass with flying colours.

The Link runs "open loop" so ignors the lambda and MAF With my 99my I retained the original ECU board and swapped over for the test (I used a Power Engineering sports cat anyway) 15 minute job!

I'm surprised a wee bit.
I always had to alter two zones to get it through the test, but was fortunate in that i was allowed to *tweak* there and then to make sure it did.

Car ran like a burst couch though with the 2 zones changed....

Sheesh.......... this all does sound a pain

I just remind the garage of my Reg number and mileage, etc and go in and pick up the cert - isnt that how its done? - your saying I have to have the car tested.... jeez - they've been doing it wrong for years.

Yeah exactly, why the testers cant just stick the pipe on an old escort or something and pass it that way.....

Actually not an escort because that would probably fail aswell!!!

Just installed a Link ECU but I had no idea that it will fail MOT. Why? Is there a way for it to be adjusted so it will pass? Do other non MAF requiring ECU´s fail as well?

Fix or repair daily
Found on rubbish dump
