Default Boost Question

AD01 Have fitted a dawes and boost gauge to my 96 jdm wrx wagon (td04)
Managed to get boost upto just shy of 1 bar. Problem is that i can only get the 1 bar of boost in 4th and 5th under load.
If i race the car off the lights through all the gears i only see about .75 bar
Any ideas if i can get around this? Would a VOS chip help? i.e new ign and fueling. I want more boost in the lower gears and when i "race the gears"

That's usual, certainly for a wagon / TD04 wagon. Boost falls off rapidly as the engine uses the air in lower gears very quickly, so only really holds full boost in 4th and 5th.
That will be the case even with more aggresive mapping of the boost control solenoid ( which you are now bypasing via the Dawes ).
It is often the case that the mapping decreases the boost available as the red line is approached for safety of the turbo / engine! I am sure that is the case on the TD04 turbo.

As the dawes is mechanical and an all or nothing sort of boost control, you won't get much better boost spool up / held boost on your current system.
Not sure if an electronic boost controller would help ... doubt it.

What you would need is a larger air inflow, i.e. bigger turbo so more air, so pressure held as not all used up. I think?

Yes it will help.

An electronic boost controller will sense the boost falling away and automatically put it up to your desired level almost to redline, I used to get boost loss at first but fitted the HKS EVC and it keeps you firmly pinned in your chair until the rev limiter cuts in due to the stepping motor and the control unit both having a cpu to communicate between each other at incredible speeds, you will not even notice boost loss with an EVC but i stand to be corrected
