I think people are having you on
STi's are more delicate than most scoobs, new age ones are better but much out of the range of what they push and your talking big bills
The turbo isnt capable of 400bhp, the intercooler isnt capable of 400bhp, the gearbox and clutch are not capable of 400bhp and 300+ lbs of torque...
this should clarify the answer for you....
Tony

Its gonna cost a lot to get you to 400bhp. Then once you are there your gonna find the consumables. WHat parts fail that are standard, which you then upgrade. When you start going up to that level think cash and garage time on older versions V5&6...liek was stated the newer versions are slightly different.
Even EVO's when up around 400 are recommended to have internals done for reliability and safety due to the extra power levels.
Dont beleive the hype, get the data sheets and speak to the tuners that have cars at that level - infact speak to other users here with Type-R's and RA's at 400+.....wont be that many...????

sorry i should have explaind more i am aware in its present form it needs modifying ie fmic headers, turbo cluth, injectors ecu and so on to get to the 400mk , but arnt the internals of the early type r engines ably to cope with this power ie forged pistons stronger rods ? i have heard of manny a few running this i thought it was the gearox witch gave out with to much tq?, this is my consern i dont wont to compromise my big launches because i love em sooo much and leave bits of my car on the side of the road.......i have spoke to a few tuning companys and a independent tuners and the advice varys altot!
Cheers

If you are intending to 'launch' on tarmac... you are likely to lunch either your gearbox/clutch/driveshafts or possibly all of them!
Would only suggest that IF you *must* 'launch' then you do it on loose gravel

400 BHP in a classic Scoob is good for 0-100 in the low nines I reckon, with a quarter in about 12.
My UK classic runs 434 BHP and 395 lbft and with an uprated five speed (which broke in three weeks) did 0-60 in 3.9, 0-100 in 8.7, 0-125 in 12.2, 1/4 in 12.1 @ 124 in the wet. It is a bit slower on the 6 speed even in the dry because of the extra gearchange. The six speed hasn't broken 7000 miles later. The engine is a standard 2.5 bottom end, the only problem so far was leaking headgaskets which were due to the head studs allowing lift on high boost, on original head bolts it has been fine so far, touch wood.
To get this sort of performance you end up spending over the value of the car again on mods!
A few have run over 400 BHP on standard UK or STi bottom ends. Some have survived, some not.

Can only agree with John here.
You will Most certainly spend more than the value of the car "getting there"
And then some. To keep it safe!
As well as performance mods. Stronger pistons, rods bearings clutch and gearbox would be recommended as well as a good monitoring system to check for stresses.
Or you could just go for it and keep breaking/sorting parts on the way. Until you get fed up and quit.
Well, thats what I did. Good luck!
