Default ECU QUESTION

Just took out my ecu from sti v4, there's been a hole cut out of the side of the casing and there's been a component used to run something external because of solder on the component, any idea's why this may of been done?also there's a wire taped up on the middle plug of the ecu plug,
Any idea's lads???

As the cat man says, or could be a speed delimiter, but that is a butchery way of doing it by cutting holes in the ECU.

Just pray that your pistons and bearings are undamaged if someone has used an FCD on an STi.

Cheers john, well i have the letter from protech saying that the speedometre was converted to mph when it had done 2k and i believe thiat would of done away with the limiter??I'll mail you a pic of the ecu and maybe you can tell if this is where a fcd would wire into.
Yea im praying too mate!!

Its most unlikely to have been a FCD which needed a hole cutting, its only necessary to externally wire it, hence the damage you see to the loom, a speed limiter is normally fitted either in the ecu harness, in which case you would see it now as a small rectangular box, or up under the dash on the incoming feed from the gearbox speed sensor.

However it could be that someone hasn't thought about it, I suspect that the car was "raced" in Japan and it could have been kitted up for that over there, its a very common thing to find as the Japanese tend to use the cars only at the weekend and then just for some hill climb type "fun".

not helpful, a picture of the internal pcb showing the position for the soldering and of the ecu wiring would allow a clearer diagnosis to be made, earlier STi wiring is a bit different to the later UK cars.

If you post up b4 tomorrow 10:00 am then I could comment further otherwise I am on holiday till the 25th and not in "car mode" or even "internet mode" at all.

If its been sprinted in Japan then as they use correct fuel etc the car will not have suffered.

cheers
