Question universal lambda wiring help needed plz

got got myself a intermotor universal 3 wire lambda sensor.
in the instructions it says that the black is the signal and the 2 whites are the heater.
on my scoob.....there 2 diff colours on there and neither match.
on the lambda side of the connecter plug theres a red with black stripes and and a black with red stripes......and theres also a white
on the other side of the connector....the white goes to another white and the other 2 goto a red and yellow.
also on the connector the 2 coloured wires are above each other and the white is on its own.
can i assume that the white is the signal wire cos its the most different?
or is there some way of testing this?
any input would be a great help.
thanks.tone.

Look at the plugs, if one of the pins is gold plated, would be quite sure this is the signal, and the other two are the heater wires.

you should find the white has silver bands round it. This IIRC it the Lambda signal, the other 2 are the heater.
