Default Grinding from the Steering Wheel

Sounds a strange one but i get a grinding noise on turning the wheel (well not grinding but plastic on plastic noise) and it is because the steering wheel is so close to the plastic "collar"/steering column.

Is this a common fault and how do I fix it. As far as im aware its the standard steering wheel (Nardi Torino?) so what would cause this and how can I fix it.

You can actually see the scored plastic if that helps.

Cheers

Stu

I have actually just had this problem with my car.

There is a rotating disc underneathe the steering wheel, and this holds the wiring for the airbag and horn. Basically over time the plastic breaks away and eventually cause the airbag warning light to light on the dash.

Also the rotor is the piece needed to switch the indicators off after you have made a turn.

Subaru part number and price as follows:

Part number: 98261fc002
Steering roll C
Price: £139.99 (with discount) + VAT
Total inc: £164.49 (cough, splutter!)

I had to buy one as the noise was driving me mad, quite easy to fit, the only pain was running the wires along the steering column and plugging them in behind the dash. All in all a 30min job I would say.

Cheers
Mark

I forgot to say, I had the MOMO face lift steering wheel (MY98).
