Question 93my wrx, u.k. fuel

Hiya.
I`ve just purchased a 93my wrx with 80,000miles on it from japan, What do i need to do to make sure it runs correctly on u.k. fuel? Is it a simple case of re setting the ecu or is there more to it than that? do i need to get it chipped or something?
what mild performance mods can i get away with carrying out on an engine with that mileage as i`m new to scoobies and have no idea how well they take their mileage?
Any tips would be most welcome.
cheers
chris.

You need super unleaded minimum and octane booster also (optimax is included in the sul bracket)
Mods... you can go for a scoobyecu, that will map your car for 97 ron fuel and give you a little more power, exhausts free up power also but be aware they can cause your car to det if your boost goes up too much.
You also need to get hold of a knocklink, available from the likes of jap innovations (plus the sensor), this will show you whats happening to your engine, a cheap way of seeing whats going on (around 160/170 quid for both).

Hi Chris, I got my 93 WRX from Japan 4 years ago.

I always run it on SUL (normally Optimax since it came out), only occasionally adding booster when the weather is hot, and I know I'm going to be driving the car hard.
The exhaust was de-cat'ed 2 years ago, and it has now done over 70,000 UK miles without problem, over 100,000 now on the clock.

I bought a knocklink and lambda sensor last year, but have never seen any suggestion of det.

I would think that you'd be ok running your WRX on SUL, but for peace of mind, consider buying a knocklink. I understand that the more highly tuned STi's are more prone to det when running only on SUL.

I run my 93 wrx on optimax alone, the early cars seem to not mind.

a cheaper alternative to a knock link is an air fuel ratio meter, as detting will only occour when the fueling is lean or rich. £65 for the guage and it plumbs straight into the lambda sensor

I ran my failry standard WRX on Optimax and it was OK most of the time, but a good thrashing in hot weather would always ensure the ECU went into limp home mode. ScoobyECU cleared all that malarky.

If the map is on a standard EPROM without encryption, legalities aside, couldn't you just create a map on a generic chip ?

Ive had my 93wrx 3 years, and mine prefers NUL...i get better mpg with it.... i normally run around 5 NUL tanks to 1 Optimax.

I can get around 300kms on a full tank of NUL, and with Optimax struggle to get 260.

Car is running 16psi boost, fitted with AFR

do you mean NUL as in 95ron.

if so it really does question if this octane thing really is an issue.

ive not put any octane booster in mine as yet and alternate between bp ultimate and optimax, car pulls slightly better with optimax but runs smoother with ultimate, still cant make my mind up which to use
