Default Should this be connected to something ?

On my Sti5 the Lambda Sensor (i think this is what it is) is screwed into the downpipe but its not actually connected to anything. ie the connector block.

I had one on my UK98 and obviously it was connected.

I think ive read it on here before but do the JDM cars (its an Sti5) not come with this sensor as standard, im assuming the current OEM DP is not the original and the previous owner put one in to plug the hole.

The early cars had the lambdas in the headers. Your car "should" have the one in the downpipe. The only other possible reason is that it has been remapped to a GEMS style ecu that doesn't need the lambda for operation.

The early cars also had a cat/heat sensor after the cat on the lower horizontal section of the DP. Where exactly are you looking? The lambda sensor should be right next to the turbo on the top of the down pipe on a version 5.

Where you looking Chris? The one directly after the turbo or the one at the bottom of the downpipe?

The first is the lambda sensor and should be connected, dont think the car would run without it, would defo get CEL if it wasnt plugged in........ so I assume you mean the boy at the bottom of the downpipe?

Thats the 'cat on fire' sensor, it monitors the temp of the cat and would throw up a little light on the dash if the cat overheats. It doesnt really need to be plugged in, in fact I think I removed the wire that connects to it when I had the decat DP on the car.

Hope this clears that up for you

Could it be possible that a previous owner fitted earlier headers so the Lambda sensor the ECU is usung is actually located in the headers? and the one you are seeing is just to fill the hole in a de-cat DP?

at last , could well be, i think i'll e-mail the previous owner(s) and find out

BTW, just to clarify it is definetly the top one, next to the turbo, usually connects under the IC, white connector block - enough info ??

NO CEL, No running problems - its still not connected
