they are one in the same mate

I have a bailey dv26 which is good, not the loudest but works well, and does not affect the engine idle as i have seen with a few

It will already have a dump valve fitted as standard, so you do not need to buy anything. The standard one is a recirculating design, i.e. the air stays within the air intake system.

The other type is a vent to atmosphere type and can give that telltale whistle when you lift off the throttle. However a VTA dump valve does nothing to improve the performance of the engine. In fact if anything it can make things worse (a slight hesitation when applying throttle after a gear change) as it confuses the ECU, air measured by the MAF sensor is ejected before it can reach the combustion chamber and so fuelling is wrong.
