Heat shield
Hi all, one corner of a heat shield has rusted through (around the bolt) and is rattling (very annoying). Car is a My96 Wrx, as you look at the front of the car its on the left hand side at the front, right next to the sump (not the up pipes, its about the same size/shape of the sump) - if removed totally could/would it cause problems or should it be replaced/repaired if possible (looking at it unlikely)
cheers, Gray

I think the problem would be two fold.
First water can crack the cast iron if you hit a puddle and second, the heat given off by not having a shield will be greater.
Your choice mate. I have been looking into wrapping mine, but plenty of people here say you cant wrap cast iron.

I'd advise you don't remove it: better to get a quick spot weld patch put on.
Removing the heatsheild from the factory headers CAN melt the radiator wiring at the front. AFAIK this is the only definite issue caused by it, though. Saying that, I'd be careful.
