Default Major power drop!

I was booting it tonight and was about 6500rpm in 3rd and the engine just died. Revs dropped to nothing, so I changed into 4th and did a jump start and all was well again.
Have I just experianced the 'fuel cut'?
If not - any ideas?
The car ran fine for the rest of the way home - even at higher revs.
Strange.

hi there

ive started with a similar prob. just had new plugs, coil packs - bar 1, and the car drives well until pushed then has a fit in first, revs die and back fires, but stil running. It does it more the more you accelerate and use the higher revs.
If i boot it to half the rev range and go through the gears it seems to be fine....
Whats going on?

Is it a similar prob? does me fuel pump need replacing as my 240bhp wrx is now running approx 285bhp. with scooby ecu chip etc with 15.5 psi

Any help greatley appreciated! as i dont want to pay for fuel pump and regulator if i dont need to!!!

Cheers!
Tim

Car seems fine today.
I tried to simulate the conditions, but could not get the same result.
Oh well.

Sounds to me more like a misfire: Been through any puddles?
