Hi People
I no this subject has been coverd before and also no there is alot of people here who have done what im going to try so i need ya help please!!, . I own a 97 sti type r, its current mods consist of full hks decat hks induction and hks dv, and knocklink. I am going to be spending my money to get some more bhp and fitting most of the items myself except ecu mapping and anything else i cant figure out!!, i have spoke to a few people about realistic performance target figures and how to acheve them, and there answers very from 320 bhp - 360 bhp running standard gear with many difent ways of geting there, i would hope to be running in the regoin of 350+ when my project is finnished, but also wont the car reliable for many future miles so if i have to put t of for a bit to save for new diffs ect i will.., so what would be the item most probaly to give under stress at these figures apart from whiplash ? but aparently a beter set up on type r/ra.22b than normal sti? so should be able to take more?.... anyway it would be great if someone can help with a bit of extra advice, my shoping list as follows
1. Fmic . will buy
2. Groupe s Headers will buy
3. Motec/ link ecu will buy
4. Bigger injectiors??
5. Uprated clutch, will buy//// will it be best to uprate fly wheel also?
6. Uprated fuel pump
7. Fuel cut defender
anything else worth considering??
i estamate this at about 4k Shoping around, also for example how much more would i have to spend to take it nearer to 400bhp......
And finaly any recomendations on the Ecu mapping
Thankyou for reading and any help given
Neil

You should be able to get close to 350bhp with your list, you will not need a fuel cut defencer with an aftermarket ECU but you will need a new fuel pressure regulator to match the uprated pump.
550cc injectors will be ideal.
Also consider the Apexi Power FC ECU, at under £800 mapped it is excellent value for money and a proven performer at 350-420bhp
To achieve 400 bhp you will also need a bigger turbo, correct choice here need not mean any loss of bottom end power
Sti type R transmission has been coping ok with this level of power recently, although there is nobody with really high mileage on it yet.
I would budget £2700 for 350bhp and £3600 for 400bhp (+fitting)
1. Fmic . will buy £500
2. Groupe s Headers will buy £400
3. Motec/ link ecu will buy....or Apexi? £800
4. Bigger injectors?? £300
5. Uprated clutch, will buy £450
6. Uprated fuel pump £150
7. Uprated regulator £100

There is really only one 'bolt on' turbo with proven reliability that will make over 400 bhp and retain the bottom end response of the std turbo and that is a TD05/06-20g.
Most of the FMIC's available will support this power ok. The group buy FMIC will be proven soon I suspect as I know of a few almost ready to run with this turbo.
I would recommend an AP clutch.
I suggest you speak to SG72, he has a type R and posts on here regularly, he has an almost identical spec to the one I suggest.
regards
Andy
ps I have 'PM'd you turbo and Apexi mapping prices

as per Andy's recommendations, but add some budget in for things like a catch tank, inlet piping and filter, earthing cables, fuel piping and basically all the little things required to finish it all off. So add about an extra £400, which seems like a lot, but many a mickle (sp) makes a muggle as Andy likes to say!
